Binding Exe Files and thinking out loud

October 26th, 2008 Posted in Rambling

I’m sure many of you (who have signed up for the newsletter) have noticed that one of the letters I send out litterally gets you to ask me anything…. and guess what?

I answer :)

It let’s me help you and it lets me know the skill set of my readers.  One of the coolest things I’ve noticed over the last year or so is that you guys/gals are really evolving.  Some of you have taken off in some of the craziest directions and sometimes I end up learning from you.

(hey – keep me in the loop – If I love what your doing I usually end up making tools to make it easier).

One of the things I don’t do (really) is bind EXE files.  There are affiliate programs out there that pay you everytime you get someone to install their .exe file.

Sounds good right?

Well not really.  BECAUSE those guys are dropping cookies, breaking computers, and probably costing you money in the long run…. and the only way to make any money doing this is by binding exe files (I show you in a minute)

Well I’ve had a number of questions about this – and I’ve pretty much told them that the effort required was a bit nuts — but I think I may have just thought of a way to make it profitable and to make it work for you with out keeping the scumware guys going.  I haven’t thought this out very far yet – so bear with me since I’m just thinking outloud.  Even if your promoting the scumware guys – you can make big money but I just don’t trust that money regardless.  The only positive is that they compile the .exe file for you so you just have to bind it to something people are installing already.

Step one – you need to have the ability or the skills to make a .exe application.  There are a number of ebook creation methods out there…. there are even shareware programs out there that take a PDF or a html page and turn it into a .exe file.  I haven’t tested to see if they dump icons on the desktop yet (that’s what we want).  If you can find something that does that – go to town with this idea.  Idealy we want something that when ‘installed’ on a pc dumps a number of icons on the users desktop.  These icons should point to live pages you have.  Could be “ink deals”, discount p*rn”, or “whatever”.

Step two – Bind your exe file with something people actually want :)   You can bind several .exe files using (on vista) accessories –> run —> Type in “iexpress” and following some directions.   If you are really going on the dark side that’s where torrent sites would come in.

Now I haven’t tested this – don’t even know if any of the ‘ebook’ creators work or if they dump an icon on the desktop during install….  just thinking out loud.  Hey – come to think of it I probably just wrote up the basics for the next “black hat torrent” product someone will be selling.
