Micro Target Niches – Latest Version
Thursday, March 27th, 2008I’d planned to release the latest version of MTN sites today. Well screw me and my planning. Who the heck thought of Spring Break for kids anyway?
I TRIED to get them to just go sit on the school steps but do they listen? Nope – they seem to think it’s unreasonable.
I’m still working though – I’d planned on implementing a caching feature and a delays release of pages over time. Why? Two reasons – one is that releasing pages slowly is just good for SEO and keeping little red flags to a minimum. The second is that since the MTN sites are designed to get spidered – they were just sucking up some shared hosts CPU allotment causing them to suspend accounts if the google or msn bot went nuts.
I just got done testing about 4 different ways of caching and I’m not happy with the performance or the reliability on many shared servers . I also set up the delayed feature – and then sent google, microsoft, and yahoo at it.
I’ve decided to NOT put caching into this next set – I just know it’s not reliable and it does seem to slow that first page load down significantly… I will however be giving you everything you need to slow drip the “states” in. You will start off with one state and slowly go up to all 50.
How fast that happens depends on spider activity and people visits…. seems like a good idea to me.
I plan on running the ‘slow drip’ idea in a couple different configurations over the next couple days – and I’ll release the best performer.
