It’s no big secret that I own and market a tool called Magic Link Cloaker (mlc for short).  Over the years I’ve produced, sold, and given away a lot of tools, scripts, and software programs.

MLC is one of my favorites though… if it fits what you are trying to do.

I’m always amazed at how people will purchase something and then be mad because it doesn’t do something that it isn’t advertised to do.  Because MLC as the word “cloaking” in it I get a few times a month someone upset because it doesn’t cloak pages.  (cloaking in seo terms is when you show search engines something and visitors to the page something else).  Or they get upset because when their visitors can tell what page the merchant or affiliate network send them

Some rules that we just normally have to abide by…. as much as I would love to put a cheap and affordable tool out to make hundreds of affiliates get in trouble, lose accounts, etc… I don’t think I want the abuse mail I would get.

1.) Framing pages is against most networks terms of service.  Many services even break out of frames so you end up screwed anyway.

2.) Cookie stuffing while fun is another no no.

3.) You can’t hide a page once you are on another site you don’t control with out framing or doing other things they don’t like.

MLC is not a black hat tool.

Really it’s not.  It’s tagline for example:

If You Promote Affiliate Products with Articles or Review Sites, How Much More Money Would You Make If You:

• Knew EXACTLY which article view on which site produced a sale!
• Could easily test several products from the SAME LINK to see which sells best for you!
• Automatically Double Meta Refresh to HIDE your referrer!

So we are split testing resource links in articles, hiding the traffic sources from nosy affiliate managers, and of course having stats to see what converts best.

It’s not for tracking ppc ads, or anything else.  Although I suppose you could use it for forum signatures, and many use it for product review sites.

That’s it kids………..  it won’t generate pages for you.  It won’t eat your lunch for you, or help you lose weight.  It’s just a handy dandy little tool to make your life easier if you are article marketing and not doing articles for seo.

It’s self hosted so no one else can see your data as well.  NEVER use a link tracking or url shortening service for important stuff because us black hats like to put those out to launder (steal) your links
