Well if you’ve been paying attention you should know that Google’s public position is that they should do no evil.  And if you think about that it means that they shouldn’t skew results, and they should treat everyone fairly.

However, we all know that really isn’t the case.

Many large commercial sites get away with cloaking, and even stuffing keywords and things like that.

As we move into 2009 I’d plan on seeing more and more “affiliates” having a hard time staying indexed in G, and even in some cases not being able to advertise on adwords.

It’s not all bad though – some of the things they are doing stop you/me/others from doing evil.  A great example is the Acia Berry offers banning and some of the mobile phone content.

Most of those offers have hidden rebilling, and in the case of acia berry offers, many of them were actively selling your credit card info to others.

Many of us won’t have a problem.  It takes a solid marketing plan, and honest offers – and Google will leave you alone for the most part…. except to index you and that’s a good thing right?

Wait – back to that “evil” part.

How long do you think before “G” starts banning more affiliate products if everyone keeps pushing hidden rebills, etc…?

Not long I would say.
