If you are doing local seo one of the first things you may be asked by a (potential) client is can you improve their listing location in the local business section.

If you’ve never done it before – you can still say “probably” – here is what we will do:

Number one:  Use keywords in the listing.  Use coupons. Use images……… fill out every damn section of the local business listing with seo in mind.

Increase Citations.  Citations are when another page references their business name, address, etc…  A link is not required (but always nice).  Paid directories, yellow pages, etc.. are the easiest way to get these.  You can also use resource boxes in articles, web 2.0 stuff, etc…

Next step is to throw a few links at the local listing page.

At this point you will see some movement.  Now you have to take a hard look at the ones above you and see what you have to do to compete.
