I recently reskinned Black Hat Digest and noticed that a number of the blogs that I’d been linking to just weren’t ‘alive’ anymore. They either hadn’t posted in over 8 months, or were a parked page or whatever. I figured it’s time for an update. The original post here was all about “Evil” bloggers – but it turns out most of the evil bloggers aren’t posting anymore, or have moved onto warez and other stuff that’s way to deep. I’d rather see more “Quality” bloggers here (You know – the ones that don’t blog about their lunch more than a technique, research, programming, etc…)

There isn’t much financial incentive for “black hat’s”, SEO guys, or programmers to actually put out good information. So those that do should get some credit, your support, and hopefully your encouragement to keep posting. You can do that by linking to them, engaging them in comments, and passing the link love back to them however you can!

So with out further ado – the update list of evil and/or quality bloggers who actually post and are worth reading:

1.) Black Hat Digest and Black Hat – White Hat:

O.K. – Obviously there are two blogs there for spot number 1, and I get to go first since it’s my list. However, BHD is filled with tutorials, code snippets, guides, ideas, and concepts. Enjoy and learn something. Here is a great example post you should go check out: http://www.blackhatdigest.com/using-xml-rpc-to-get-the-last-category-created-on-a-wordpress-blog/. There are about 3 or 4 hundred pages of content here – I’m sure you’ll find something to learn. Both blogs are updated constantly – I can’t find any other BH/seo related blogs that stay updated and are filled with info in my bookmarks – a sad day.

2.) Blue Hat SEO: (honorary mention since he’s not posting)
Eli doesn’t update much (if at all anymore). But I’ll give him credit for being on the first bloggers to talk openly about having different tiers of websites. I happen to know he isn’t dead so maybe he will decide to do some posting again. Even if he doesn’t his blog is a great read for ideas – just remember most of them are quite old so you definitely need to update the ideas to deal with todays reality. Start here if you haven’t read his blog before: http://www.bluehatseo.com/seo-empire-part-1/

3.) Quiet Affiliate:
There are some more decent reads and some code examples here. Enjoy a great writer, that appears to be taking some time to make his posts extra nice just for you. Here is a post to get you started: http://www.quietaffiliate.com/source-code-ab-split-testing-for-your-landing-page

4: ThinkDif:
I love this blog. The author spends quite a bit of time making thoughtful examples of real world issues to help with things like facebook, linkedin, and some rather fine just general programming examples. Here is a great post on getting started with Facebook Programming: http://thinkdiff.net/facebook/todo-and-not-todo-when-developing-facebook-application/

O.K. I had 30 bookmarks in my “SEO BLOG” folder. That’s what left that has posted in the last 8 months. You’ll notice instead of the title of this post being “10″ Evil and/or quality) Bloggers, it’s titled with an “X”. That means it’s up to you to add to it in the comments! Share your site (Yes if it sucks you will get called out on it), or just share a site you enjoy.

When I initially bought Black Hat Digest I had every intention of making it a blog where I just link off to other posts, code, etc…

Never really worked out that way, but I did make a “digest” category where I planned to highlight other cool bloggers.

Didn’t happen that way either

Now it seems that most of the blogs I used to read are dead, abandoned, crappy, etc…

Still I’ve made a syndicated section where I’ve got Contempt.me, nickycakes, blackhatdigst, seocracy, and I’ll add in a few others (If your worthy just make a comment here asking and I’ll add you in.)

Here it is:

When I originally bought “blackhatdigest.com” I’d planned to set up a scrapper kind of site. I’d just scrape the results of the places that had good info and post it here.

Obviously I never did that. Instead I turned it into a place where I could help my customers and clients learn more.

That doesn’t mean that the “digest” wasn’t a good idea – there is still a number of great bloggers and people spitting out info out there. So I’ve added a category to this here blog o’ mine. It’s called “digest” and I’ll be showcasing quality bloggers, and great coders who actually teach, help, and are worth reading.

Sorry – I’m still going to ramble, and make my own posts as well.
