Todays post isn’t even remotely black hat. I’ve covered it in some of the audio, and I’ve mentioned it in other threads but today I’m going to break it down….. How to add more money sites to your network.
White hat sites don’t have to be big huge monoliths filled with unique text and back breaking labor. While those types of sites are great for building yourself up as an authority they are hard to maintain unless you are an excellent writer or have the funds to pay someone else to write GOOD articles for you.
(warning - $5 dollar articles don’t make an authority site. Plan on $25 to $50 for a QUALITY article)
So how do you expand your white hat (or money sites) so you can milk the most money out of whatever topic you are working with?
Small sites built with html, wordpress, or even Xsitepro. When I say small sites - I mean a handful of pages - a one hit wonder if you will.
These one hit wonders focus on a product, a service, or a retail good. You don’t need 5400 pages to sell a toaster :) Focus on the name, the product, or a term. “Toaster Brand XYZ On Sale”. If your smart you will also do some research first and find out what folks are searching for and if you have any competition. It’s important that if you have been building your network on “toasters” that you stick with it here. Even if you have been building white hat and foundation sites for toasters - you could probably jump to “ovens” or something here and be just fine. Don’t move onto fishing or something totally unrelated because you don’t have the infrastructure.
You can certainly start off with a new domain - but if you can find something a little established things will go much faster.
So let’s say you throw up a site about toaster brand xyz… what then? Well you have a couple things to do, and you should do the link building slowly.
Step one: Make sure you do your basic seo. That means some images, alt tags, etc… I’m not going to teach you the basics of seo in this post that is what Google is for. In a nutshell though you need to do the following:
- Meta tags (yes you should still have them)
- Alt Tags and Images
- Title tags.
- H1 tags - h2 tags, etc…
- A smart linking structure internally. I’ve found that no_following things like a contact page helps a tad, and of course you should link every page back to your index page. Just having a good linking structure helps you get spidered, indexed, and even some PR.
The important thing here is to not spend all your time making the site. Pick your term. Make your optimized pages. Get it up.
Step two: Get some links. We aren’t looking to kick to much tail here. Just a few links to indexed and spidered. Use social networks such as dig… but get indexed.
Wait a few days, and build up a few more links in other places.
With in a week you should be indexed and ranking somewhere in the serps. The good news is that most people aren’t trying to rank highly for “sale price on xyz toaster” and you should have done your research on your competition. You should know you need xx links from xx places to beat them.
You have a whole network behind you that the others don’t right? You’ve been working and putting up foundation and black hat sites on related topics so you have a headstart….. a BIG one. You also have whatever white hat sites you have out there - use them for these too. You aren’t doing anything black hat - so go to town linking.
Total time for what I call a one hit wonder is just a couple hours - and that includes your linking. Once you’ve done more work than your competition (if you even have any worthy of the name) you just let it sit for a few months and come back to it. If you find you need more links at this point to rank higher - DO IT.
Don’t wait for it to be profitable - just keep going and building more. If you did your research you can wait to rank…. because it will take a few weeks or longer. If 3 months is to long for you to wait - visit again each month. Just don’t spend time on a one hit wonder every day.
