Copy and paste shortcuts (pc)

October 31st, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Rambling, Tutorials

I seem to be copying and pasting all day long and you probably are too.  Here are a few shortcuts to help you out a bit (amazed that everyone didn’t know these.

  • Ctrl + C = copies the highlighted text to the clipboard
  • Ctrl + V = pastes the clipboard contents into the file
  • Ctrl + X = cuts the highlighted text from the document
  • Ctrl + Backspace = deletes one word to the left of the cursor
  • Ctrl + Delete = deletes one word to the right of the cursor

Now my biggest issue is always the huge amounts of files, folders, etc.. that I need to copy and paste – move, etc..

I found a tool a few days ago that I think I’m gonna have to buy.  http://www.conceptworld.com/Piky/piky_features.asp  It’s shareware so you get a free 30 day trial.

90 percent of you probably won’t need pickybasket – but If your manipulating lots of folders, content, etc.. on your local drive it’s a time saver.

Easy Viral Topic.

The other day I saw someone throwing links around for a website (this one:  http://www.ihateyoujulia.com/ ).  Basically the guy has set up a system to show you pictures of his ex girlfriend.  The catch?  He only shows you all of them as you send more visitors to a special link he gives you.

From a programming point of view it looks quite simple.  You land at his page he sets a cookie with a random value inside it.  He also creates a text file or a database entry that corrosponds to that random value.

When someone comes to your url it pings that database or updates the text file with another hit — but only if THEY don’t have a cookie on their pc as well.

(for newer programmers:  database is really the only way to do this – that many text files would be a huge thing after a bit).

I’ve got a few ideas running through my head (sorry nothing so racey as julia there).  But I see a couple ways to take this idea and turn it into something cool… or to twist it nicely.

Would you get me 60 links for a free membership into NSS 2?  I’d scrape yahoo for your unique url and when It hit 60 results I’d send you your membership automatically?

Would you refer 60 people to get something free?
Want to be a real “ass hat” and tell people if they refer 5 people they will have a chance to win a free ps3 or something…. then send them to a CPA offer for a ps3 so you make money that way :)

I guess my point is that you can do lot’s of things with this concept. So enjoy the idea – and let me know if you do anything with it.

SpamArrest is crazy

October 31st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

If you send out mail you will probably get a “verification” e-mail from spamarrest.  Before you agree to let your mail go through you should realize that your giving spamarrest permission to sue you for 2k for each violation.  I and many other people won’t agree to these terms….

SENDER AGREEMENT – By clicking the “VERIFY” button above, and in consideration for Spam Arrest, LLC forwarding your e-mail (and any e-mails you may send in the future) to the intended recipient (the “Recipient”), you agree to be bound by the following Sender Agreement:

You represent and warrant to Spam Arrest and the Recipient that any e-mail you desire to send to the Recipient is not “unsolicited commercial e-mail” i.e., the e-mail does not primarily contain an advertisement or promotion of a commercial product, service or Web site; unless the Recipient expressly consented to receive the message, either in response to a clear and conspicuous request for such consent or at the Recipient’s own initiative. Further, you represent and warrant that your transmission of any e-mail does not violate any local, state or federal law governing the transmission of unsolicited commercial e-mail, including, but not limited to, RCW § 19.190.020 or the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. You understand and acknowledge that it is fair and reasonable that you agree to abide by the restrictions set forth in this agreement. You acknowledge and agree that this agreement is central to Spam Arrest’s decision to forward your e-mails to the Recipient. Accordingly, if you violate this agreement, Spam Arrest and the Recipient shall be entitled to (1) temporary and/or permanent injunctive relief to restrain any further breaches or violations of this agreement; and (2) damages in the amount of two thousand dollars ($2,000.00) for each violation of this agreement. You acknowledge that such remedies are appropriate and reasonable in light of the costs and expenses Spam Arrest incurs as a result of eradicating and filtering unsolicited commercial e-mail. You acknowledge that the $2000.00 remedy is a reasonable estimate of Spam Arrest’s and the Recipient’s actual damages. This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Washington and the exclusive venue for any action related to this agreement shall be held in the state and federal courts located in Washington. You hereby waive any right to object to venue or jurisdiction based on inconvenient forum, lack of personal jurisdiction or for any other reason.
